Why Faith Matters in Bible Study
Imagine two athletes training for a life-changing competition. Both have the same talent, the same time to prepare, and a well-structured program from their coach.
The first athlete starts strong but grows anxious as the competition nears. Doubt creeps in—some exercises seem unnecessary; progress feels too slow. Eventually, he abandons the plan, convinced he knows better.
The second athlete faces the same doubts but chooses to trust the coach. Even when uncertain, he sticks with the program, believing in the wisdom behind it.
The difference? Faith. One trusted the process—the other didn’t.
So often, this is the mistake we make in our Bible study. We read with one foot in and one foot out—maybe today’s reading will speak to us, maybe it won’t. Maybe God will reveal something, maybe He won’t. And so, we go through the motions, hoping He’ll squeeze into whatever space we’ve left for Him.
But what a flawed view of God’s Word! This is the living, inspired Word of God—timeless in wisdom, unmatched in truth, and more powerful than anything else we’ll encounter today. Before we even open our Bible, we should approach it with reverence and faith, trusting that God is speaking, whether we see it immediately or not.

How to Read the Bible with Faith
So, how do we actually read the Bible effectively? How do we shift from passive reading to actively engaging with Scripture in faith?
It begins with how we approach God’s Word—our mindset, our expectations, and our willingness to be shaped by it. Too often, we treat Bible study as just another task to check off, reading passively and hoping something will stand out. But true faith-based Bible study means coming to Scripture with the expectation that God is speaking, even if we don’t always feel it in the moment.

Before diving in, take a moment to pray. Ask God to open your heart, clear away distractions, and help you understand what He wants to reveal. Reading the Bible with faith also means slowing down—letting the words sink in rather than rushing through. When we meditate on Scripture, we begin to see connections, patterns, and truths that we might have missed in a hurried reading.
And faith is more than just hearing—it’s responding. When God brings something to light, whether an encouragement or a challenge, we step forward in obedience, trusting that His Word is living and active, shaping us in ways we may not fully understand yet.
Trusting God's Word Even When It Feels Quiet
Not every day will feel profound. Some days, a passage will stir something deep within us, while other days may feel quiet. But reading the Bible with faith means trusting that every encounter with Scripture is valuable—that God is planting seeds, working beneath the surface, and using His Word to transform us over time.
The key is to keep coming back, keep listening, and keep trusting that God’s truth is always at work in our lives.
